Welcome to Department of Mathematics
 
 

The Department of Mathematics is one of the pioneering departments of NIT Mizoram, equipped with a strongly motivated faculty. Mathematics, known as the queen of all sciences, plays an integral role in engineering courses. Recognizing the growing importance of Mathematics and Computing, the department has introduced a new B.Tech. Programme in Mathematics and Computing. This program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematical principles and their applications in computer science and related fields.

In addition to the B.Tech Programme, the department also offers a Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics. This program provides a platform for aspiring researchers to delve deeper into various mathematical domains and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field. The department's faculty members actively engage in research activities, collaborating with peers from other institutions and industries, to further enhance the academic and research environment.

With a focus on excellence in research and education, the Department of Mathematics strives to impart high-quality education to students and transform them into competent and motivated professionals. The department offers a wide range of courses in Mathematics and Statistics to cater to the diverse needs of students from different engineering departments. By fostering a strong foundation in Mathematics, the department ensures that engineering students develop the necessary analytical and problem-solving skills to excel in their respective fields.

Two B.Tech. students Mr. Rishab Shukla (BT23MA002) and Mr. Saurabh Kumar Gupta (BT23MA006) have been selected for prestigious Guest Scientist Program at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, GERMANY. 


Three Third year students Mr. Rishab Shukla, Ms. Pragya Tripathi & Mr. Khush Katariya have been selected for the Summar Research Internship Program at IIT Madras.


Ms. Kavala Tejasvi & Ms Y. Sathya Keerthika have been selected for the Summer Internship Program at IIT Thirupathi.


Mr. Saurabh Kumar Gupta, Mr. Khush Kataria & Mr. Santosh Anand, have won the 1st Prize in the Virthli Hackathon held at Mizoram University.


Ms. Anjali Rawat, research scholar, has given the InHouse Seminar on the Topic "Neural Network approach to solve Optimization Problems".


Mr. Rishabh Pandey, research scholar, has given the InHouse Seminar on the Topic "Study of Nonsmooth Optimization Problems".


Ms. Priyanka, research scholar has given the InHouse Seminar on the topic "Introduction of mathematical programming".


Mr. Ramashish got the summer internship offer at IITBHU & Mr. Abhishek Yadav got the summer internship offer at IIT Patna.


Ms. Anjali Rawat, (Senior Research Scholar) received the Best Presentation Award in the Indo-French Seminar on Recent Developments in Nonlinear Optimization Problems and Applications (RDNOPA 2025) and International Conference on Nonlinear Optimization and Applications (ICNOA 2025) at the Department of Mathematics, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi


Two B.Tech. (M&C) second year students Mr. Dhanush Reddy and Mr. Laxmi Ganpati Kodi got the Certificate of Appriciation for their Outstanding Code Contributions to the development of the Federated Learning Platform for Visual Action Recognition by Prof. Kalidas, Department of CSE, IIT Tirupati.
